Taxonomic Comments
Rothfels et al. (2008) provide a phylogeny showing that the genus Notholaena (Pteridaceae) is paraphyletic, with some additions and resolution by Yatskievych and Arbelaez (2008). The generic placement of this taxon is in accordance with the Pteridophyte Phylogeny Group I (2016).

Rare in Trans-Pecos and Edwards Plateau of Texas, expected (but not documented) in one county of New Mexico, and known from five counties in Arizona. Also known from Mexico, but abundance and distribution not known. Rank of G4 from Texas Heritage Program; distribution includes MX (FNA 1993).
